The Romanian city of Turda has firmly established itself as a leader in sustainable urban development, with a strong focus on biodiversity, eco-friendly materials and energy efficiency. A notable example is its award-winning sustainable mobility plan, which includes the introduction of electric public transport and the expansion of cycling infrastructure.
As part of its green strategy, Turda planted a substantial number of trees in the city centre in 2023–2024: Acer campestre 'Elsrijk' and Betula pendula 'Zwitsers Glorie', with a trunk girth of 25–30 cm.
This carefully considered planting initiative not only enhances the urban landscape, but also helps improve air quality, support biodiversity and increase resilience to climate change. In this way, Turda underlines its commitment to a healthy and sustainable urban future.
