The Romanian city of Turda has firmly established itself as a frontrunner in sustainable urban development, with a focus on biodiversity, ecological materials and energy efficiency.
A clear example is the award-winning sustainable mobility plan, which introduced electric public transport and expanded cycle infrastructure. As part of its green strategy, Turda planted a substantial number of Acer campestre 'Elsrijk' and Betula pendula 'Zwitsers Glorie' with a trunk girth of 25–30 cm in the city centre in 2023–2024. This carefully considered greening programme not only enhances the public realm, but also contributes to better air quality, greater biodiversity and increased resilience to climate change. In doing so, Turda underlines its commitment to a healthy and sustainable urban future.
