The regeneration of Mendl Square in Brno has transformed an important transport hub into a clearer, more welcoming public space. The works also include new tree planting, bringing greenery, shade and a more natural scale to this predominantly hard-landscaped setting.

The planting scheme was designed for the demanding conditions of an urban environment and to create a more comfortable microclimate across the square. We supplied Quercus texana 'New Madrid' and Ulmus 'Frontier', planted at a stem circumference of 30–35 cm. The trees are arranged throughout the main area of the square. The new planting also provides shade for visitors and progressively strengthens the square’s role as a place to spend time. Alongside improved traffic arrangements, the regeneration has created a higher-quality public space.
