Tilia tuan var. chenmoui Tilia tuan var. chenmoui

Tilia tuan var. chenmoui is a variety of the highly variable T. tuan. The chenmoui variety is a strong-growing tree that can reach 10-20 m in height. Its dense crown is ovoid in shape. The grey bark will flake off in plates. The leaves are oval and distinctly narrower than in most other lime species. When it sprouts, the leaves are silver-grey hairy and the underside of the adult leaves is also silver-grey hairy. The upper surface of the leaves is mid-green with distinctly lighter veins. In the species T. tuan the leaf margin is entire or with a few small teeth at the apex, in var. chenmoui the leaf margin is distinctly toothed. The flowers appear in pendulous corymbs containing 3-6 flowers together. T. tuan var. chinensis also has serrated leaf margins, but in this variety there are always 16-22 flowers in a cluster.
Tilia tuan var. chenmoui grows in any sufficiently fertile, permeable soil. The tree has proven well hardy and is recommended for use in wide avenues, parks and gardens. The tree cannot be used in paved areas. Hardiness zone 7.
