Tiliaceae

Tilia cordata 'Greenspire' Tilia cordata 'Greenspire'

A uniformly growing American selection that when young has a pyramidal crown with a straight trunk, developing branches slanting upwards. At a later stage the crown becomes oval to ovoid. The height can eventual reach 20 m, width up to approx. 10 m. The trunk is dark brown and grooved, young twigs are green to reddish brown. 'Greenspire' has leaves that are somewhat larger than those of the species. The base of the leaf is heart-shaped and the top of the leaf tapers to an abrupt point. The leaves are bluish green on the underside. Pungent flowers appear in early summer, growing in short umbels. The light green bract is somewhat shorter than the umbel. Fairly small fruit follows in late summer. These are grey and felt-like at first and later bare. T. cordata and cultivars are not very prone to aphids. The tree anchors into the ground less well than does the species.
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2025.
