Sorbus aria 'Gigantea' Sorbus aria 'Gigantea'

Rosaceae

Sorbus aria 'Gigantea' Sorbus aria 'Gigantea'

This cultivar has a dense, broad, pyramidal to oval crown and grows to a height of 8 - 12 m. It is distinguished from the species by its considerably larger leaves. They sometimes reach 25 cm in length, but usually measure about 17 cm. They remain on the tree for a long time in the autumn. The flowers are similar to those of the species but they are followed in late summer by orange-yellow fruits approx. 1.5 cm in size. 'Gigantea' shows a strong resemblance to S. aria 'Majestica' but grows considerably faster. Good park tree or for use in avenues and streets. Stands up to hard surfaces. Winter hardiness zone: 5a
