Rosaceae

Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red' Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red'

Easy and versatile medium-size tree with a narrow oval to oval, loose crown reaching heights of 6 to 9 m. The broad-elliptical leaf emerges light green but turns gradually darker during the season, eventually becoming dark purplish red at the end of summer. The leaf remains on the tree well into autumn and keeps its dark colour. Blossoms in May with small, white flowers in projecting racemes, followed by purplish red to purplish black fruits. Very much like ‘Shubert’ but with a more slender crown shape and grows somewhat more vigorously when young. This makes the tree better suited to use on open verges. Wide range of uses due to its excellent winter hardiness and easy growth. Preferably planted on a nutrient-rich, moist but well-drained soil.
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2025.
