Prunus ×blireana Prunus ×blireana

Rosaceae

Prunus ×blireana Prunus ×blireana

This medium-sized tree has a rounded and regularly branched closed crown. It can eventually attain a height of 8 - 12 m and has a deeply penetrating taproot with very strongly developed lateral roots. The glossy bark is brownish-red. The ovoid dark green leaves attain a size of 15 cm and turn orange-yellow in the autumn. The leaves have an irregularly serrated edge. The tree produces bundles of white double flowers. These are 2 - 3 cm in size and emerge in late April to early May. 'Plena' is sterile and therefore produces no fruit. It is mainly used as a park and avenue tree. In order to be able to grow well the tree requires humid, fertile, sandy soil. Preferably calcareous.
