Populus nigra 'Wolterson' has a fairly broad, elongated, oval crown formed by long, diagonally upright, reasonably heavy branches. Height 20 - 25 m. The green leaves, usually diamond-shaped, emerge brown. Yellowish-green in the autumn. Produces flowers in the shape of female catkins and can produce fruit later. Suitable for urban areas and landscapes, in row planting and alongside roads. Little sensitive to leaf spot disease and canker but sensitive to rust. Very good resistance to (sea) wind and thus suitable for coastal areas. Winter hardiness zone: 4
