The trunk carries many branches and characteristic heavy branches grow on the windward side. The light-green triangular leaves have an almost straight foot. The tree produces flowers in the form of female catkins. 'Marilandica' is very sensitive to leaf spot disease and fairly sensitive to rust. The tree is little sensitive to canker.
