Magnoliaceae

Magnolia 'Elizabeth' Magnolia 'Elizabeth'

Medium-size tree with a regular pyramidal crown of 5 - 8 (10) m. The first flowers open around early May and the blossoms persist for about 3 weeks. The flowers are vase-shaped and somewhat crescent-shaped. They are strikingly big, sometimes up to 20 cm long. The flowers are a soft yellow, so they stand out well against the dark green, sprouting leaves. ‘Elizabeth’ was one of the first yellow-blossoming Magnolias developed in New York’s Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The cross was created in 1956, but was named in 1978 after Elizabeth Scholz, the garden’s director at that time.
