Sapindaceae

Koelreuteria paniculata 'Coral Sun' Koelreuteria paniculata 'Coral Sun'

Small to medium size tree with a rather irregular round to fan-shaped crown. The young twigs are intensely radiant orange-red and the leaves are bronze coloured on emerging. The first-year twigs later turn light yellow-brown and the leaves yellow-green. The shoots forming in summer also have these striking colours. The (bi-)pinnate leaf can be up to 50 cm long. The bark of the trunk eventually becomes grey-brown with shallow grooves. The blossom and fruits are typical of the species, but ‘Coral Sun’ generally blossoms less than others in the species. Has few demands as to soil but prefers a sunny, sheltered position.
