Eucommia ulmoides Hardy rubber tree, Guttapercha tree

Eucommia is a monotypical breed, i.e. there is only one species that exists. It is a robustly growing tree that supplied rubber in China. It is the only rubber supplier in the northern hemisphere. The crown is broad, rounded and open. When the leaves are broken, a rubbery substance is released. The two halves of the leaf stay connected by these “threads”. The thick, oval to elongated leaves are long and taper to a point, the edges of the leaves are serrated. Eucommia has unisexual, green flowers. The male flowers have strikingly long, reddish brown anthers, usually growing singly, sometimes in clusters. They appear shortly before or together with the leaves and grow at the base of the young twigs. Elliptical, flatted, winged nut fruits, approx. 3.5 cm and split at the top, appear on the female plants. Eucommia ulmoides is the most winter-hardy tree producing rubber. The bark is also used for medicinal purposes in China.
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2025.
