Cornaceae

Cornus VENUS ('KN30 8') Cornus VENUS ('KN30 8')

VENUS is a small tree with a broad oval to round crown that grows 6-9 m high and equally wide. Young trees are not very densely branched so they can be quite open and somewhat sticky. This disappears with older trees. It may take some years before the final crown shape is visible. Leaves ovoid to inverted ovoid, dark green. Turn red in autumn before falling off.
Flowers consist of a small globular head of flowers with four prominent flower bracts (bractae) around it. In VENUS, these bractae are huge. The entire flower can be more than 15 cm in diameter. The striking bractae are creamy white and, thanks to their size, particularly eye-catching. As the tree usually flowers profusely at a young age, it is a real eye-catcher. The small flowers at the centre are green and not very conspicuous. When flowering, the bracts turn slightly purplish-red. Flowering time May-June.
Originated from a cross between Cornus kousa and Cornus nuttallii at The State University of New Jersey (Rutgers), New Brunswick, New York, USA. Hardiness zone 6
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2025.
