Betulaceae

Carpinus caroliniana 'Sentinel Dries' Carpinus caroliniana 'Sentinel Dries'

This medium-sized tree with a densely branched, oval crown grows to a height of about 6-8 m. The species C. caroliniana is somewhat variable in shape. Low, wide trees occur, but also well upright growing clones. 'Sentinel Dries' fulfils the need for a tree-shaped cultivar with an oval crown. The tree does grow somewhat erratically, giving it a more informal character. The young leaves are slightly reddish-tinged, while the summer leaves are dark green. In autumn, the leaves turn a beautiful orange-red.
'Sentinel Dries' has few soil requirements and grows best in humus-rich loamy soil. Temporarily tolerates a lot of moisture. Was marketed by Tree Nursery Pavia, Deerlijk, Belgium. Hardiness zone 4
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2025.
