Carpinus betulus 'Columnaris' Carpinus betulus 'Columnaris'

Betulaceae

Carpinus betulus 'Columnaris' Carpinus betulus 'Columnaris'

This tree grows very slowly and compactly. Height 7 - 8 m. The crown is a narrow ovoid, later ovoid and extremely closed thanks to the dense branching. This cultivar is often grown on a standard tree but sometimes specimens are found that branch out from the ground. 'Columnaris' remains narrower than the 'Fastigiata' cultivar, though the two are often confused. The leaves are a fresh green colour in the spring and turn colour to golden yellow in the autumn. Because of its slow rate of growth 'Columnaris' is less suitable for use in public places, 'Fastigiata' and 'Frans Fontaine' being more suitable. Winter hardiness zone: 5a
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2025.
