Acer cappadocicum 'Aureum' Acer cappadocicum 'Aureum'

Aceraceae

Acer cappadocicum 'Aureum' Acer cappadocicum 'Aureum'

With regard to the growth habit this cultivar strongly resembles the species, but the main difference is the colour of the leaf. When unfolding the leaf is deep purple, afterwards it turns quickly into bright yellow. During summer the leaf turns light green and in autumn it turns back to yellow again. Unfortunately the juvenile foliage is slightly sensitive to scorching in sunny periods in spring and early summer. The tree is not tolerant to very dry soil, nor a soil with a high pH. In a lightly shady site 'Areum' can grow into a spectacular avenue tree in wide streets or as a solitary in parks.
