At the foot of the iconic Eiffel Tower, within the expansive Parc du Champ-de-Mars, a large number of Styphnolobium japonicum trees have been planted. This characterful species, supplied by Van den Berk Nurseries, has become a key component of the green framework surrounding this Parisian monument.

Following planting, the trees were lightly pollarded to encourage a more compact crown. Styphnolobium responds well to this type of pruning, making it particularly suitable for use in designed urban landscapes. With its graceful, pinnate foliage, summer flowering, and broad canopy, the pagoda tree is both ornamental and practical. It excels in urban resilience—tolerant of air pollution, drought, and limited rooting space, making it an ideal fit for the intensively used green spaces of Paris.

In addition, Styphnolobium contributes significantly to biodiversity. Its fragrant flowers are a rich source of nectar for bees and other pollinators, making it an excellent choice in ecologically conscious planting schemes.
