Lazienki Park in Warsaw is one of the most important tourist attractions with a host of 18th and 19th century buildings, including the Royal Baths a Roman-inspired theatre and a water tower. The park’s gardens, some of which date back centuries, were all designed around these historic buildings. At the end of 2014, Niek Rooze landscape architects were commissioned by the Dutch Embassy in Warsaw to design the ‘Dutch Garden’ at the beautifully restored Orangerie in Lazienki Park.

The ‘Dutch Garden’ not only contains references to the 17th parterre style of gardening, but also to the Dutch King William Alexander and Queen Maxima. The royal couple visited the park and its Orangerie during their very first state visit in 2014. It was then that the idea that the Netherlands should take the garden under its wing because of its design expertise, the quality and wide rage of its flora.

Niek Roozen came up with a design based on historic lines brought up to date with contemporary greenery. He selected the large, trained rhododendrons for the borders that frame the garden at Van den Berk Nurseries. We supplied five large Rhododendrons ‘Catawbiense Boursault’, two Magnolia sieboldii and two Magnolia loebneri ‘Leonard Messel’. The Dutch Garden was officially opened by the Dutch Ambassador during the King’s Day celebrations in 2016.
