Hof van Saksen is holiday resort which has bungalows in the Saxon style traditionally used in the region of Drenthe. Piet Oudolf, famous for his stunning use of huge plants, designed the outdoor space. For the central area of the park, Van den Berk supplied an unusually candelabra-shaped Styphnolobium japonicum (Sophora japonica). It is a shape that enables the trunks and branches of the tree to grow to a considerable size while the crown remains compact, provided it is regularly pruned. When they are pruned correctly, candelabra trees have a robust winter silhouette, which means they are attractive all year round.
