In 2012, the new Grolsch Veste, the home ground of FC Twente football club was ready to landscape the area surrounding the ground. What looks at first sight to be an ordinary planting at ground level, is actually a technical wonder. The soil around the stadium was too wet to plant trees due to the presence of natural springs, but by placing concrete slabs and a drainage system 80 to 150 cm below the surface, a kind of roof garden structure was created. Van Ginkel then signed up to design a good growing location and planted a beautiful selection of multi-stem trees and Metasequoias under the guidance of the arborological consultant from Van den Berk’s Knowledge and Advice department.
