Taxodiaceae

Taxodium distichum var. imbricatum Taxodium distichum var. imbricatum

Taxodium distichum var. imbricatum is a deciduous conifer with a broad columnar growth habit, later narrowly pyramidal. It typically grows 12 - 15 m tall. The trunk typically tapers to the top of the tree. The young twigs are reddish brown, the older bark is greyish reddish brown and slightly less fibrously flaking than in the species T. distichum. The main branches are more or less horizontal to the trunk, but side branches grow upwards almost parallel to the trunk. The needles are very small, only 4 - 6 mm long, and are more or less pressed against the short- and longlances. The needles and short shoots fall off simultaneously in autumn. The foliage sprouts bright green and turns medium green in summer. The autumn colour is orange-brown. The typical branching and fine foliage structure give this variety a striking appearance. Taxodium distichum var. imbricatum tolerates moist to wet soils and can be semi-paved. Unlike the species, this variety rarely forms the characteristic knee roots. Fine-textured cultivar for use in gardens, parks, industrial areas and cemeteries. Occurs naturally in lower coastal areas from Virginia to Louisiana, USA. Hardiness zone: 6a
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2025.
