Quercus petraea 'Ryan' Quercus ×rosacea 'Ryan'

Quercus petraea 'Ryan' is the scientific name for the hybrids between Q. petraea and Q. robur. 'Ryan' is a moderately strong-growing tree with a broad pyramidal crown. This is also one of the main differences from the species Q. petraea and Q. robur, which both have a round to very wide crown. 'Ryan' forms a good continuous central branch and fairly ascending upright supporting branches, giving the crown its regular shape. The leaves are oval to inverted ovoid and regularly lobed. It is dark green and remains green longer than Q. petraea and Q. robur in autumn, before (often) withering on the tree in winter. The leaves seem better mildew resistant.
'Ryan' was found by nursery Van Tienen-Van der Hulst of Mill. The tree originated as a seedling of Q. ×rosacea 'Columna' and was introduced in 2005. Its narrower form makes 'Ryan' more suitable as avenue tree in greenbelts and parks. Hardiness zone 5.
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2025.
