Prunus virginiana 'Shubert' is an easy tree with an oval, later rounded and loose crown. Height 5 - 8 m. The broad-elliptical leaves are 6 - 12 cm long and emerge light green in spring but quickly turn violet to brownish-red. This spectacular colouring of the leaves finishes up with intensely dark leaves at the end of the summer. The leaves remain on the tree for a long time. In May the tree bears small white flowers in projecting bunches. After that, purple-red to practically black fruit, Ø approx. 1 cm. Winter hardiness zone: 3
