Small tree with spreading branches and a flattened spherical crown. Height 5 - 10 m. The bark is deeply grooved and the young twigs are smooth and green. The thin dark green leaves are a broad oval shape and measure 5 - 10 cm. They taper to a point and have a double serrated edge. The underside is light green. The pink, tending to white, flowers have a strong smell of almonds. They are 2 - 3 cm in size and stand alone or in pairs. They appear in March, before the leaves, and are followed by green, edible, apricot-like fruits, diameter 3 - 4 cm. Winter hardiness zone: 6b
