Malus 'John Downie' is a beautiful ornamental apple tree with a broad loose crown that starts by showing strong ascending growth, height to approx. 6 m. The ovoid leaves are glossy green. The flowers are white and single, Ø approx. 6 cm, and they bloom in May. The numerous ovoid fruits are yellow with a red-orange blush, Ø 3 - 4 cm. Can be used in parks, public gardens and gardens. It makes heavy demands on the soil as regards moisture supply and fertility. Sensitive to sea wind and moderately sensitive to scab. Winter hardiness zone: 5a
