This cultivar was selected from Cedrus deodara seed that came from Pakistan. The intense, blue-grey to silvery blue-grey colour of the needles distinguish this tree from the species. The twigs are also grey. Its manner of growth is narrow and pyramidal, a second difference in respect of the species. The needles grow in groups, with up to 30 bundled together. The ovoid, upright cones grow singly or in pairs and have a round top. 'Karl Fuchs' is less sensitive to frost than the species. Nonetheless, it prefers a sunny site sheltered from wind. The tree does not thrive well in high-pH soils.
