Betulaceae

Betula nigra DURA HEAT ('BNMTF') Betula nigra DURA HEAT ('BNMTF')

Graceful, medium-size tree with a regular, pyramidal crown. The bark starts to peel when young. The older bark is a pinkish orange-brown and profusely peeling. The dark green leaves turn an attractive butter yellow in autumn, remaining on the tree for about one month longer than with B. nigra. It blossoms early and the long, male catkins are very conspicuous. ‘BNMTF’ was selected for its better tolerance to heat and drought than the comparable B. nigra. In addition, the tree has a nicely regular crown shape.
