Aesculus parviflora Dwarf buckeye

Hippocastanaceae

Aesculus parviflora Dwarf buckeye

Shrub-like plant that ‘only’ grows to 3 - 5 m high, but can attain up to 10 m breadth by suckering. The dark green leaves have 5 to 7 fingers and turn deep yellow in autumn. The flowering pattern is very attractive. The long flower panicles are usually 20 to 40 cm long and consist of numerous white flowers. The flowers have narrow crown petals and the stamens extend far outside the flowers. This gives the blossom a beautiful, delicate texture. The blossoming comes in July/August and is the latest in the season of all Aesculus species. The fruits are smooth and the seeds germinate very rapidly. Due to the more or less shrub-like, very broad habit, the plant is mainly suitable for use in large gardens and parks.
