Aesculus glabra 'April Wine' Aesculus glabra 'April Wine'

'April Wine' is a small tree to about 5 m tall with a spherical crown. This cultivar grows markedly slower than A. glabra, but otherwise has all the characteristics. However, unlike the species, the spring leaves sprout deep wine-red to brown-red. The flowers are yellow-white and appear at the same time as the unfurling leaves, making a nice combination. The beautifully coloured spring leaves make this tree a striking spring tree. Many combinations are therefore possible, while 'April Wine' can also be used as a solitary. Suitable as a park tree or in gardens. It tolerates semi-paved areas and is therefore also suitable for use on a-locations. 'April Wine' was found as a seedling of A. glabra in the USA. Hardiness zone: 6
