Aceraceae

Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood' Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood'

Magnificent, large shrub that grows to become a small tree and can grow to over 10 m high in exceptional cases. ‘Bloodgood’ originated as a seedling of ‘Atropurpureum’, but clearly differs from the latter. For example, the crown is significantly narrower and the leaves are blackish red throughout summer, turning in autumn to a beautiful deep red. The fruit is also a more intense red. ‘Bloodgood’ is propagated not only by grafting: it also strikes well from cuttings. Plants propagated from struck cuttings do grow more slowly than grafted examples. Although named by Bloodgood Nurseries in the USA, it is sometimes suggested that ‘Bloodgood’ was discovered by the Ebbing & Van Groos nursery in Boskoop (NL) and exported to the USA.
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2025.
