The old ferry port of Rotterdam belongs to the maritime heritage of the city. The port accommodates historic ships and is regularly the scene of large events. Several years ago, turkey oaks were planted on the quay alongside the port. The Quercus cerris, sizes 35-40 and 40-45, were supplied by Van den Berk Nurseries. Around the corner, on the Willemskade with a view of the Erasmus Bridge, a boulevard was created by the planting of a double row of sturdy plane trees. On the other side, on the newly renovated ‘Kop van Zuid’ (South Bank), special containers with multi-trunk trees including Prunus cerasifera ‘Nigra’ and Cornus mas were placed. The containers provide the desired flexibility with regard to the construction activities and use of the site.
