Pairi Daiza is a zoo on the site of the former Cambron Abbey that belonged to the Cistercian order. In the park, there are lots of ruins that remind us of this fact. Pairi Daiza means enclosed garden in the Persian language. It is an experience park containing gardens, each of which has been given a theme from a different part of the world. Van den Berk supplied a lot of trees and shrubs for these ‘World Gardens’. The themes in each garden determined the choice of species. For example, in the African part of there are Robinia and Gleditsia and the Chinese garden, Taxodium and Lagerstroemia have been planted.
