Extended planting season

No matter how good the project planning may be, if the weather plays up or other unforeseen circumstances cause delays, then sometimes the trees cannot be planted before they bud. By using coconut fibre root balls, the planting season can be extended.

Planting all year round
The coconut fibre root ball method was developed several years ago. The trees are dug up shortly before the end of the planting season, after which the root balls are wrapped with a mat that consists of two layers of coconut fibres with biologically degradable plastic in between. The trees are temporarily set aside on the coconut field where they are provided with food and water via a drip system. This allows the fine root hairs to continue to grow in the inner coconut fibres.   The advantage of this method compared to the ‘spring ring’ for example is that the trees don’t have to take root in the medium first, since there is already a compact root ball present. This makes it possible to plant the trees at any time, so the delay (and the financial loss!) can be kept to a minimum.

Trees can be ordered with a coconut fibre root ball; for this, please contact the sales team well in advance.  The trees can remain on the coconut field without losing quality for 2 years maximum. The actual planting is easy and doesn’t differ much from planting with a wire root ball.
