Municity Nuenen

The municipal council of Neunen implemented a number of traffic calming measures in a special project. In the autumn of 2004, Van den Berk Nurseries supplied 34 cylindrical Carpinus betulus ‘Fastigiata’ in the heights 350-400 cm.

Six column-shaped beech trees with heights of 400-450 were also planted. Van den Berk Nurseries also supplied 55 Quercus robur ‘Fastigiata van den Berk’ for planting on the Collsehoefdijk in Nuenen. A beautiful batch of oaks that keep their leaves throughout the winter. An extremely special cultivar!

Municipality Leeuwarden

The principal visited the nursery and selected the trees. The result: this Platanus acerifolia on a car park in Leeuwarden. The trees were planted five years ago on the basis of hydroculture and receive nutrients and water through a drip system. Pruning takes place once per year, and this is what creates the whimsical shape. Real eye-catchers!

Willemskade / Kop van Zuid, Rotterdam

Thirty-six Platanus acerifolia, size 70-80, have been planted along the Willemskade in Rotterdam. Plane trees show good resistance to dust and exhaust fumes and are thus eminently suitable for planting along city streets and avenues. .
The Kop van Zuid in Rotterdam is also known as Manhattan on the Maas. The skyline is a tourist attraction that gives the district style. The old poplars at the ferry terminal were replaced. It was decided to compensate for this by planting larger trees. Van den Berk Nurseries supplied a number of Platanus x acerifolia and 27 Quercus cerris with rootballs in the size 35-45. The principal marked and reserved the trees at the nursery a year before they were delivered because they had recently been replanted and thoroughly pruned. The trees were planted in November 2004 and will receive aftercare for three years.

Munipalicity Weert

In the 2000/2001 season, three striking Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Skyline’ were planted in front of restaurant La Fontaine on the markt in Weert. The trees give the restaurant an imposing look and also provide shade for the terrace.

A large Sophora japonica ‘Regent’ and five trained Tilia x europaea ‘Pallida’ were planted in the vicinity of the market. Furthermore, Van den Berk Nurseries supplied a number of trained Platanus x acerifolia for the road to the railway.

Outlet Centre, Roermond

A large shopping centre has been built in Roermond: the Outlet Centre. Van den Berk Nurseries supplied trees for this project in the 2000/2001 season. A large batch of Prunus avium ‘Plena’ was planted along the pedestrian routes to the main entrance. Platanus x acerifolia was selected for the road to the car parks, and a number of Acer platanoides ‘Emerald Queen’ were planted at the car parks.

Three Quercus palustris in the size 100-120 and Liquidambar Styraciflua were planted at the heart of the shopping centre in order to add even more cachet. This was done at night in order to surprise the shopping public the next day. In August 2005, the last trees for this large project were delivered: an Alnus spaethii in the size 60-70 and ten Quercus ilex in the size 45-50 on a coconut rootball.

Keukenhof

The first phase began around four years ago. This involved planting native Oak (Quercus robur) to create the primary structure. This was followed by section planting, containing a number of varieties, including Taxus baccata.

The large Pollarded Plane Trees (Platanus acerifolia) directly in front ofthe pavilion are very striking. Using these larger sizes makes it look as if the new Oranje Paviljoen has been there for many years. It immediately gives the location a very mature look.

Market Etten-Leur

Tytsjerksteradiel Oentsjerkl

Waterplein, Drachten

Van den Berk Nurseries supplied the multi-trunked Liquidambar styraciflua for the Waterplein in Drachten.

Slot Haverleij, 's-Hertogenbosch

Several years ago, the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch started a unique project. One thousand houses and apartments were grouped in Slot Haverleij and 9 other castles in an area covering 225 hectares. What is striking is that only 10% of the total surface area has been built on.

There is even space for a professional golf course, so this really is ‘living in the green’. Van den Berk Nurseries supplied a large number of trees, including 250 Salix alba for the driveway of Castle Wuyvenhaerd and Platanus acerifolia for a courtyard in Castle Haverleij.

Efteling, Kaatsheuvel

A section of the most successful amusement park in the Netherlands will be restored during the next 5 years. The first phase of the development plan was implemented this year. A surprising amount of new plants (Van den Berk supplied 150 trees) and paving was put in place in less than 5 weeks.

The Wonderwoudweg was constructed through the existing forest and runs from the entrance of the panda dream towards the Gondoletta. A number of Betula nigra, Betula utillis subsp. jacquemontii and Lagerstroemia indica were planted here.

Prunus serrulata ‘Taihaku' has been selected for the new carnival festival road heading towards the Pagoda. To emphasise the oriental atmosphere of the pagoda, 2 Taxus baccata bonsais were also planted, and the surrounding buffer was partially planted with Sequoiadendron giganteum and Abies nordmanniana. The Pagoda has a beautiful view of this redeveloped part of the Efteling.

The crowning glory of our work in the Efteling is the beautiful Sequoiadendron giganteum, which you pass when you walk from the entrance to de Brink.
