Delivery, transport and planting

Seasons
At Van den Berk, nearly all trees are in open ground. Nothing else is really possible with the cultivation of large, high quality trees, but this is the only way for them to have enough room to develop a healthy root system. The upshot of this is that the seasons have to be respected. The trees can only be dug up and delivered when they are ‘at rest’ i.e. when leaves have fallen off. At that time there is no longer any evaporation via the leaves and the sap streams have stopped flowing. Roughly speaking, it’s from early November to mid-April, depending on the species of tree and seasonal developments. It’s slightly different for conifers, rhododendrons and other evergreen plants. They have a longer planting season but cannot be replanted in the hottest months of the year.

Reservation
When you have selected trees at the nursery, and the summer months can be an excellent time to do so, a tape is immediately put on them and from that moment on, the trees are reserved for you. Afterwards you will receive an order confirmation, including or excluding transport of the trees.

Transport
There are two possibilities with regard to transport. You can arrange it yourself. In that case, take the size and especially the weight of the trees into account. You will find more information about weights in the root ball table. The logistics department can also take care of the transport for you. Van den Berk drivers are specialised in the transport and unloading of trees, so you can be certain that they will arrive at their end location in good condition.

Scheduling
The sales team will confer with you to determine when the trees have to be delivered. If they can be delivered in the immediate future, that will be noted on the order confirmation and the logistics department will get in touch with you to discuss the delivery. When the trees cannot be delivered immediately, you can contact the logistics department during the planting season for a ‘delivery on demand’ of your trees. You can make additional appointments with them, preferably at least two weeks prior to the desired delivery date. Ring for appointments regarding delivery on: +31 (0) 413 – 480 473 or mail to frank@vdberk.nl

Planting
In the case of large sized trees, it is recommended to call on the services of a gardener, green contractor or tree worker for the planting. Most of the nursery trees have such heavy root balls that they can no longer be planted manually. Green contractors, gardeners and tree workers have the right equipment and if necessary, they can hire a crane. Furthermore, it is extremely important for  ‘taking root’ and regrowth that trees are planted with professional skill. Van den Berk Nurseries can assist in finding the right professional for you.
