Floriade 2012: It will be massive!

In April 2012, the Sixth World Horticulture Exhibition, the Floriade, will be held in Venlo. And of course, Van den Berk Nurseries will be there as well. Van den Berk Nurseries have been involved in the Floriade since 2007, and has already supplied hundreds of trees for the park.

Our submission
Besides these trees, Van den Berk has, for the third time, submitted its own design; to be realized in the ‘Environment’ area of the exhibition. After a lot of sketching, designing and planning, the first trees and rhododendrons were planted last winter, to ensure they have an entire growing season to root properly. One of the trees we planted, was the largest tree of the Floriade: A Metasequoia glyptostroboides, with a trunk circumference of 160-180 and a height of 16 metres, which will definitely be the eye catcher of our 850 m2 garden. The dawn redwood will be in the middle of a pavilion, growing through the roof; the perfect example of integrated greenery!

Pavilion
With its submission, consisting of an architectural and natural garden, Van den Berk wants to show that there is a suitable tree for every situation. They also want to make the public more aware of the importance of trees for the quality of urban and village life. That is why we will be setting up the pavilion in the months running up to the Floriade. The pavilion will show in various ways what trees mean for the environment and local community.
